The boards show cracks and branches. Is this normal?

Cracks and branches are typical characteristics of wood, which do not affect the quality of the wood in principle. You can easily use wood to build your playground. If beams or boards purchased from us are damaged, we will of course send you a free replacement.

Boards show mold or resin leaks. Is this normal?

Mold or resin do not affect the quality of the wood. You can safely use wood to build your playground.
 
We cannot prevent the formation of mold. This mold occurs because during impregnation, water is pressed into the wood. When we send the goods, to protect against damage, we pack the goods with protective film and sometimes mold occurs. This mold does not affect the quality of the wood. Most of the mold can be cleaned with a cloth. The stains gradually disappear under the sun.
 
The resin is released during the impregnation of the wood. This is a typical characteristic of wood. Resin does not affect the quality of the wood.
If the resin comes into contact with the sun, the resin dries out and crumbles.

Should I paint the wood?

No, it is not necessary to paint the wood. The wood used for our products is impregnated and therefore weatherproof. Nothing takes away from the fact that if you want to keep the product over time you can further impregnate it with the shade that you like best.

What are the natural characteristics of wood?

Wood is the natural growth process - Material taken - a raw material from "nature". In contrast to industrially produced materials, it is not uniform - each piece of wood is unique. In addition to good strength properties, a relatively low weight and ease of workability, in general, the material is characteristic with its "defects". These sometimes occur indicator available to small restrictions in nature. The unique natural characteristics are consciously accepted and do not represent a real deficiency.

Drying cracks and warping
Drying cracks can occur during the drying process due to an uneven wood structure. Depending on the location of the product (e.g. location in the sun or in the shade), this can occur to varying degrees and disappear again. According to DIN 4074 these cracks are in principle permitted and have no negative effect on the structural strength and durability.

Resin spills
A resin leak in the conifer group especially in the hot season cannot be avoided. This property can be,strengthened with an absorbent dark coating. Tip for the case: use a piece of wood as a "spatula" and carefully remove any spilled resin.

Blue mold and fungus
The wood is well protected by impregnation. Pressure impregnated wood may occur during storage of wood surface mold and mildew stains. Most surface mold can be easily removed after drying. These spots are not threatening and gradually disappear following atmospheric influences.

Swelling and shrinkage
A typical property of wood is the change in volume due to moisture absorption e.g. drying. Depending on the humidity of the air it causes a "strong" variation in the volume. A freshly cut pine board, for example, lost about 4% of its strength at 10% humidity! After pressure impregnation in an autoclave the wood is saturated with impregnating solution. After drying the wood has reached maximum contraction. This fact must be taken into account when processing.

Rough spots

The surface of planed/processed timber, despite great care and sharp tools, may partly show signs of wear re rough points. However, especially wood fibers in the opposite direction to that of processing sometimes cause rough spots. Furthermore, unfortunately, small fringes cannot be avoided when parting or rounding the ends.

Saline efflorescence
Pressure impregnation in an autoclave allows copper salts to penetrate deep into the wood, which protect it from mold and insects. The green and whitish spots on the surface of the wood do not pose any risk, since in this case it is a coloration caused by copper salts and they gradually disappear following atmospheric influences.

Colour Differences
For pressure-impregnated wood, color pigments are associated with the impregnation solution in the wood. During pressure impregnation in an autoclave, the wood, due to the different densities, does not absorb the impregnated solution uniformly. The pigment absorption behavior is determined by the type of wood, the wood cross-section, the moisture content and the temperature of the material. The result is different degrees of color intensity that disappear over time following atmospheric influences.

The medullary rays
The medulla is located in the center of the conifer trunk in the longitudinal direction. This has a few millimeters in diameter and appears as shiny stripes with a color tone that is sometimes different from that of the surrounding wood. From wood processing, this consists of a tube of porous fabric, totally or partially visible so-called ''mirrors'' but belongs to the natural appearance of this material. Their presence is no decay or other damage to the wood and does not affect the quality of the wooden material.

Branches and natural wood grain
Knots and grain are characteristic of wood. For furniture wood products, healthy wood is used, but sometimes knotty wood on the contrary, as it is used in furniture construction. Knots and uniform grain e.g. for profiles or wood for construction cannot be guaranteed.

 

What impregnation was used?

All our products are made from a Central European pine/fir with a non-toxic high pressure vacuum autoclave impregnation (Wolmanit® CX) protected from the elements.
Wolmanit CX is a range of liquid, chromium-free, wood preservative salts with preventive efficacy against wood-destroying fungi including those that cause soft rot and against wood-destroying insects including termites.
Numerous international studies confirm the effectiveness of Wolmanit CX.
Wolmanit CX is based on the active copper-HDO, a fungicide, which has been used successfully for many years in wood preservation and is the world's most studied fungicide from the toxicological point of view of the preservative wood.
The aqueous Wolmanit CX products are releasable, weatherproof after the rapid correction of heavy wood or plants. This impregnation treatment is suitable for the protection of construction wood of all kinds, inside and outside, for wood in contact with the ground and water, especially for play areas, poles, palisades, fences and more. Wolmanit CX gives the wood a light green color.
